History
Superman was created by Jerry Siegel (writer) and Joe Shuster (artist) and made his first appearance in 1938 in the first issue of Action Comics. Originally intended as a symbol of the fight for freedom the Allies led against the Axis during WWII, he became what's probably the most famous and the most representative super-hero. He is the classic super-hero.
Origins
Superman comes from the long gone planet Krypton, from where his father sent him toEarth while he was yet unborn to save him from the destruction awaiting their planet. On Krypton, Kal-El would be a simple citizen, on Earth, his kryptonian origins give him amazing powers.
Found when he was just a baby by the Kents, a couple of farmers, he was then renamed Clark and grew up with his foster family in Smallville, Kansas.
Clark soon started to show amazing powers until one day, Jonathan Kent unveiled the secrets of how he and his wife had found the infant and revealed the remains of the rocket Kal-El had landed in. Clark, from now on, will be conscious that his powers imply responsabilities.

Powers : Flight, superhuman strength, invulnerability, supervision, superhearing, and more.
Weaknesses : Superman can temporariliy lose his powers if he displays too great a number of them too quickly. He can however recharge by simply exposing himself to yellow sun radiation (our sun). His real weakness is kryptonite, a mineral originating from his planet that is highly poisonous to Superman. Short exposure to kryptonic make Superman lose his powers. A long exposure can kill him.
